~Portraits in Blues~

Eddy "The Chief" Clearwater / 11/25/2009

The Beverly Arts Center / Chicago

He came on the stage after his band played an intro, and we knew we were in the presence of a seasoned veteran - one of the great bluesmen of Chicago. The Chief  is a great entertainer, full of energy and when we heard him, we could hear the influences of Chuck Berry, Magic Sam, and Otis Rush. Of course, we love the fact that he plays the guitar left-handed and upside down - self taught. He played Otis Redding’s “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay”, which sounded fabulous. Some other great music The Chief performed for us was “Too Old To Get Married…(too young to be buried)” , “West Side Strut“, and “Came Up The Hard Way”, which really got us fired up.
